Danesh is a computer scientist by training who enjoys working in interdisciplinary areas of research. He has so far crossed the bridges between computer science, biology and robotics. He received his Ph.D. in Life Sciences from the University of Lausanne, in collaboration with the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), in Switzerland. Following his PhD, Danesh did a 4 year postdoc stint in the area of computational immunology, at the Gulbenkian Institute of Science with a joint position at the Institute for Systems and Robotics, in Lisbon, Portugal. His work focussed on developing theoretical models of the adaptive immune system, and applying them to fault-detection in large-scale multirobot systems. He is currently a research associate at the Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris, and is working on evolvability, and damage recovery in multilegged robots. Danesh’s area of interests include computational immunology, artificial evolution, social biology, swarm intelligence, and fault-tolerant robot collectives.
